Unable to Insert a Movie from the Selected File
If you run into this error message when inserting media files into your presentation, check this MSKB article:
Q212409 - PPT2000: Unable to Insert a Movie from the Selected File
For a more detailed tutorial on Windows multimedia, see the Myers Multimedia FAQ starting here.
And a great suggestion from a PowerPoint newsgroup member:
If you are using Windows XP
- Open Windows movie maker (Start, Accessories, Windows Movie maker)
- Start a new project
- Import your video file and drag it to the storyboard.
- Choose save to my computer.
- Follow the prompts.
- Now insert that movie into PowerPoint.
I may be wrong, but it seems that Moviemaker recognises most video file types/codecs and exports in a format that PowerPoint has no issues with.
