What's PDFMaker?

Problem

In this section and elsewhere on the web, you may see references to "PDFMaker".
What the heck is PDFMaker?

Solution

PDFMaker is the generic name for several add-ins that Adobe adds to PowerPoint, Word, Excel and some other programs when you install Adobe Acrobat.

PDFMaker for PowerPoint makes it a bit simpler to convert PowerPoint presentations into PDF with a single click of the mouse. It also makes the resulting PDF a little more faithful to the PowerPoint original; slide transitions, certain types of hyperlinks and a few other bits of PPT interactivity get converted into their PDF equivalents.

Is PDFMaker installed in your copy of PowerPoint?

If so, you'll see "Adobe PDF" or "Acrobat" somewhere to the right of "Help" on PowerPoint's main menu bar. There will also be a "PDFMaker X" toolbar (where X = the version number) that has two or three buttons on it.

Acrobat installs PDFMaker when the Acrobat installer finds Office present at the time of installation. If you installed Office after installing Acrobat, you'll have to re-install Acrobat to install PDFMaker.

PDFMaker converts a fairly limited subset of PowerPoint features to PDF. For a more comprehensive conversion see Prep4PDF
