Problem

You start a slide show in PowerPoint 2002 or later and click the pen icon in the lower left part of the screen to choose an annotation pen but nothing happens. The cursor remains an arrow, doesn't change to the correct cursor for the selected annotation pen, and you can't draw on the slide.

Solution

Re-run Office Setup and choose to install Microsoft Handwriting Components.
