Problem
When trying to open a file in PowerPoint, you receive a message:
Can't access [filename] because the filename is invalid
Solution
We don't know the specific cause for this problem, but newsgroup users have reported that they've solved it by:
- Disabling offline files
- Disabling their antivirus software. Naturally, this should be done only as a test. If disabling your AV software solves the problem, you should contact the software vendor for a more permanent fix.
If the message is
PowerPoint can't open the type of file represented by [FILENAME]
please see PowerPoint can't open the type of file represented by [FILENAME].
