Please don't spam
You've probably been asked to read this because you've posted a message recommending a product in the PowerPoint Newsgroup. Here's something posted by PowerPoint MVP Bill Dilworth that explains a lot about how newsgroup users react to this kind of message if not carefully done:
Let's, for the sake of argument, assume that you are new to this arena.
I am willing to further assume that you have thoroughly tested your product and it works as advertised on all reasonable computer configurations (this has often not been the case, with spammers selling buggy and even destructive software).
And, I will even go so far as to hope that you are responsible business people, who are not just in it for the money, but also for the benefits your software might be able to provide to real people.
Then I would suggest ...
- Use the trade magazines for advertising.
- Use Google and other search engine ads.
- Respond to requests for help on the newsgroups. But: Strong warning on this one: Have a real person actually read and understand the request and only offer your product if it is a viable solution to the poster's request for help. Do not ever use bots to auto-post anything, we are somewhat merciless in attacking bot posts.
- Do not lie. Some companies have pretended to be someone else and asked questions they want to answer. These are less-than-honorable companies and they have done this in the past. Again, we have a very low threshold for this type of behavior.
